Los Coyotes Indian Reservation

Update: 09/07/2004

Los Coyotes Indian Reservation has been closed to off-roading and camping.  The present plan is to convert it into a horse camp.   For up to date information go to:  http://loscoyotes.info/

Los Coyotes Indian Reservation is located in northern San Diego County.  The Los Coyotes Band of Mission Indians who control the reservation have opened their land to use by campers, hikers, mountain bicyclist, buggies, and four wheel drive enthusiasts.   The reservation encompasses 25,049 acres of mountain terrain covered with pine, cedar and black oak trees.  The bush is largely manzanita.   The canyons are sprinkled with springs and trails.  Hot Spring Mountain at 6,533 feet is the tallest peak in San Diego County.

On July 29, 2002 the Pines fire broke out in the Whispering PInes area of San Diego County.  This fire continued to burn until it reached the border of the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation around August 5, 2002.

Here is a map marked up with some of the LCIR trails.  You can see that the Pines fire came into the reservation.
